More of Water and the Garden coming shortly , I swear. Really. I have ideas and everything. Now for some mini-reviews/initial impressions.
Sly 2:
It is indeed a fairly old game. Two, three years old. Never the less I just got it. I'm very patient. Sly 1 is by far my absolute favorite 3D platform game. It was exciting, challenging, and fun to play. Just jumping around was fun. Sly 2 has the same basic game play, which is still fantastic, however it is constantly interrupted with little story moments or mission breaks. The story is fun and fairly interesting. The missions are just too short. Every "episode" takes place in a kind of giant level or over world. The missions take place in this level and in adjacent buildings or areas in and around the level. These areas are extremely small, consisting of mostly a room and a hallway. Granted it has been a couple years since I played the first Sly but if I remember it correctly, each level, while smaller than sly 2's over worlds, were fairly large. This allowed for extended fun to be had in each level. In Sly 2 the missions, while fun, are just too short due to the game area design. It's like having a Snicker Fun-Size bar. While crazy delicious, they're over in one bite. Having said all that. It's still a good game, though easy. I'd recommend it to anyone who has played first Sly Cooper.
Star Fox Command for the Nintendo DS
The last time I played a Star Fox game it was brand new for the Super Nintendo. That was a long time ago. I remember it well, sort of. Three friends of mine (brothers) got the game. We went back to their place and played it into the wee-hours of the morning. We wouldn't have stopped but the Super Nintendo froze. I know, I can't believe it either. Who ever heard of a SNES getting so hot it froze up? That game was just THAT awesome. The SNES totally couldn't handle it (after 6+ hours of playing). Anyway, Star Fox Command is fun. There are at least Nine story endings, chosen in the "choose your own adventure" style, leading to plenty of replay. The controls are good. My only complaint is that it gets uncomfortable after a while. the boss battles are great. Normal enemies are really easy. There are some enemies that can handle like your own ship, those stages, in my opinion are really annoying. Those ships constantly do loops and since the game isn't truly controllable in 3d it's difficult to track them. Each stage is timed which adds to the challenge, mostly in the frustration area but it's not too bad. There's a strategy map on each "stage" as well. It's light on the strategy but a good addition.
Alright, I'm typed-out.
